LOVED entering the Disney villain world. Hook and Wendy hook up, violence (in general) ensues, it's a good time.

Book Review: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
Well, we’re back in the arena friends. It’s been ten years, but we finally have the prequel Suzanne Collins promised us. I’ve been reading quite a bit here during the pandemic – after finishing my MBA it’s been a whole new world opened up to me – I don’t even know what TV is anymore (JK, I have some feels on a lot of TV right now too)! But for all the books I’ve been reading, and believe me, I’ve had thoughts on them, nothing hit me quite as hard as The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
Book Review: The Testaments
For all those Hulu fans out there, I recently had the pleasure of reading Margaret Atwood’s sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale - The Testaments. Now, what intrigued me the most about this read, besides the fact that the general premise of The Handmaid’s Tale is both fascinating and timely, is that it was written 34 … Continue reading Book Review: The Testaments
Book Reviews: Quick & Dirty
Ok guys, I’ll admit what you already know - I. have. been. slacking! So rather than go back and try and do big long reviews for all the books I’ve been reading, because truly I have been reading, I’m just going to get down and dirty right here. Here are some of the books I’ve read over the past couple of months and what I thought!
Book Review: Into Thin Air
I don’t know about you guys, but I love a good natural disaster story. There’s some sort of morbid fascination that comes from watching a horror movie or reading a horror book, especially when it happens to be true. Because at its core, that’s what Into Thin Air is - a horror story. Beautifully written, Krakauer tells his personal account of the events that occurred during the 1996 climbing season, one of the most deadly in history.
Book Review: Lady Smoke
Book two of the Ash Princess series starts us off on the Smoke - notorious pirate Dragonbane's legendary ship. Princess Theodosia and her rag tag group have successfully escaped Astrea, but not quite as smoothly or as to plan as they’d hope. This sequel takes them on their next steps in the long journey towards reclaiming her throne, and getting their country back.
Ready Player One: Book versus Movie (Spoiler Free)
I’ve recently gotten into the strange habit of watching book-to-movies, then going back to read the book. When I do this, it’s because I loved the movie enough to want to learn more, and knew the only way to satisfy my curiosity was to delve into the book, which inevitably would have more information and a deeper story line. The most recent book-to-big-screen that hit my fancy was Ready Player One. I remember the hype back when it hit theaters, and a few friends had recommended, so when the movie came to HBO I gave it a look. THEN, once I was intrigued enough, I cracked open the hard copy.
January Wrap-Up
I can't believe we've already wrapped up the first month of the year! Despite the meme's going around the web making fun of how long this month was (sorry, it wasn't bad if you didn't participate in "dry January"), it went fast for me. As far as reading, I don’t even know what is considered “average” for me, it generally depends on if I’m in school or just how busy I am, but this month I finished three books. Here’s a quick recap of each, and a little mini review. Bring on February!
Book Review: Time’s Convert
Where are my All Souls fans!? Because I. HAVE. ARRIVED. Last year, a friend of mine introduced me to A Discovery of Witches, and I’ve never been the same. I’ve added it to the now ongoing list of life changing series’ (talking to you Sarah J. Maas…), and lucky enough, I started right as a new book was coming out.
Book Review: Ice Station
Let’s get down to business, because this is arguably my favorite book of all time …
Action, Action, Action – this book does not quit. Think Fast and Furious, but in book form. There are very few breaks in the drama, but rather than feeling exhausted, Reilly leaves you invigorated and wanting more after each chapter.
Cool factor – if you look Ice Station up on Wikipedia, it defines it as a techno thriller. Translation: it is super cool. The plot gets deep into military conspiracy theories, and I swear you’ll walk away thinking you just took a crash course in the CIA. You’ll want to start using words like “recon,” “maghook,”and “assault position,” in daily life
