Quick story time. I have been saving this book. After I read His in the Darkness and Delivered to the Devil by Ella Jacobs, I knew I had something special here. Frankly, her pitch-black romances are what I’ve always been looking for, and I wanted to savor every minute of their existence. THEN, just this week, she sent a call out for street team members and I was lucky enough to be selected! At that point, I couldn’t take it any longer and I knew I had to crack open In His Cage, which I’ve been very excited to read. Well, fortunately AND unfortunately, my love for this book was as high as I’d expected, and now I’m dealing with an incredible hangover. WHAT A PROBLEM TO HAVE 😉
Highlights:
Astrid dreams of success. She dreams of fame and glory at the hands of her beloved piano, but when the infamous Aleksandr suddenly takes her and puts her in a golden cage, will she ever get out.. does she even want to? Will she ever be the same again?
Triggers/tropes: MF, forced MF and FF sharing, abduction, non con, praise and degradation, Stockholm syndrome, whipping
What I thought:
PHEW, this book.. it got me. For all of my attempts to save and savor it, I read it in two sittings, one of which took me past midnight and I could barely get through the next day waiting to finish. The story is so raw, so emotional, and so intense, it grips you from the very start. Jacobs weaves a beautiful story of hate and longing, freedom and confinement, pain and acceptance, internal desire and external objection. I have never rooted for a villain more, and never understood Stockholm syndrome better. I WANTED freedom for Astrid, but did I? I HATED Aleksandr and what he was doing, but I wanted him to succeed. I KNEW there could be no happy ending, but I desperately wanted a conclusion. This book is a mindfuck, and I loved every minute of it. As always, watch your triggers, and enjoy. You’ll be seeing a lot more hype for Ms. Jacobs from me, and I couldn’t be more excited!
