Queen Takes Rose: Review

UGH. You know how you avoid the last book in a series sometimes because you just don’t want it to end? I know you people, of all the people, understand….

Well, I’ve been avoiding reading Queen Takes Rose for quite some time. It’s the final book in Katee Roberts’ Wicked Villains series, and I’ve just been dreading it. It’s been especially hard to avoid because, although the books are technically standalone’s in the same world, this book in particular has been teased the most throughout the series. I also have a huge TBR stack, including an ARC I really need to read ASAP, but NEVERTHELESS, this past weekend I started and finished this one.

Highlights:
Aurora and Malone have been dancing around each other for years, so when they contract for two weeks outside of the Underworld, anything could happen… especially when revenge may or may not be involved… *shrugs*

Triggers/tropes: FF, explicit sex

What I thought:
So good! I have my favorite couples in this series (I’m sorry, but I’m a sucker for the throuples), but if I were to pick a favorite character overall, it would have to be Aurora. Not only is she my favorite original Disney princess, but her character in this series was just so downright lovable and fun. That said, WOW did her character arc reveal itself in the most unexpected way! Bubbly, friendly, occasionally fierce, caring Aurora came in HOT in this book and I was absolutely here for it. Conversely, freaking Malone, the terror lurking in the corner of every other book, came in SOFT! Basically what I mean is, both characters came full circle and I couldn’t have loved it more. I’m not sure if the spice was really lower in this or if it was just my perception because there was a lot more personal growth, but it did seem a little less chili pepper-y (that’s not a criticism, merely an observation). Loved the characters, loved the storyline, sad it’s over.

SERIES REVIEW
Since it’s through, and I’m not 100% sure I actually reviewed every book in this series, I’d just like to say a few words of love. This series was so fun. Each story is an extremely loose retelling of a Disney villain, literally it’s just like HINTS of the Disney stories and characters, and they’re quite smutty! Most of them have more smut than plot, but the plot that IS there is very entertaining. They’re short and sweet, most clocking in around or under 250 pages, and interconnect in a similar world. You probably should read them in order for the best experience, since the stories build upon each other, but you wouldn’t necessarily be confused if you chose to pick them up at random. Katee Robert is a wonder, and I am truly grateful my sister took a chance and bought me Desperate Measures last Christmas.

P.s. Robert is working on a second gen version of these! Thank God.
