Leather & Lark: Review

The books are booking, people, and I’m loving it. Bookish girl summer is in full swing!

I literally feel like Butcher and Blackbird JUST came out (which it basically did), and still somehow I was feral for Leather and Lark by the time I got my preorder. LET’S GO.

Highlights:
Lark will do anything to protect the people she loves. For her best friend and for her family, she’ll marry contract killer, and asshat extraordinaire, Lachlan Kane, and pray they can keep everyone safe.

What I thought:
I think I found my book spirit animal in Lark Montague (SORRY, Kane). I absolutely loved this book, almost as much as I loved Butcher & Blackbird. The ONLY reason I think I liked B&B a bit more is because it was so unexpected. Actually, this entire series has been unexpected! It’s like.. If you added romance, nonsense, and hilarity to Criminal Minds – it’s a void I never knew I needed filled.

First of all, the narration was just perfect. Initially, I was disappointed it wasn’t the same people as B&B, but that disappointment quickly faded. Second of all, these characters are just hysterical! Lark’s chaotic effervescence paired with Lachlan’s broody moping was a joy to listen to. The backstory in this one wasn’t quite as fun as Rowan and Sloane’s murder game (seriously, I’ll never get over that), but Ethel took care of that gap! I fell in love with Lark instantly (one thing she has over Sloan, sorry, she’s my spirit animal!), and watching her story unfold the way it did made me laugh, cry, and then cry some more. Five freaking stars.

SCYTHE & SPARROW CAN’T COME SOON ENOUGH.

P.s. I want to apologize to all of my neighbors who had to witness my chaotic listening while walking. I actually think I scared a few of them…
