“Don’t judge a book by its cover,” they say….
I won’t lie, this book was 100% a cover purchase. I’d seen it on BookTok, but in person it’s just a gorgeous piece of art. Little did I know, the prose would be as beautiful as the print.
Highlights:
Corvina has never been a normal girl, but when she leaves everything she’s ever known behind and enters the University of Verenmore, nothing will ever be the same.
Oh… and Verenmore is supposedly haunted, and there’s a super hot, young, mysterious professor angsting up the place.
What I thought:
Vad Deverell is my new book boyfriend. Rhysand will always be my husband, don’t @ me anyone, but I’m cheating on him with Vad and that’s that. This book was swoon worthy – you’ve got a quiet, unassuming girl with zero social skills who enters a new world of academia and intrigue, and immediately gets wrapped up in her own sexual awakening. Add to that a mysterious air of murder, suicide, and family demons – BOOM, you’ve got Gothikana.
Truly, I thought this book was a breath of fresh air. I loved all the creepy vibes, and the twist at the end had me reeling. I think it’s worth the hype people, definitely worth it.
