Slash or Pass: Review

It might just be me… but when I’m feeling especially emotional/chaotic in my personal life, I reach right for the goriest, craziest thing I can find. It’s, I assume, where my love of horror movies comes from, and now, my love of horror/slasher “flick” books! Enter… Tylor Paige.

Highlights:
Cult. Murder. Mystery.
Eisley and Kansas escaped a murderous cult when they were 11. But when a documentary crew shows up to film the gory details, people start dropping dead, and all Hell breaks loose.

TW’s: cults, child abuse, noncon, dubcon, murder, blood, drug use, uh… etc.

What I thought:
Aww, this one really took me back to the PEAK Scream days!! It was just as infuriating to read as it was to watch every single one of those movies – like LADIES, let’s be smarter.. – but at the same time, just as thrilling. I loved the cult vibe, loved every single twist and turn (and man there were some twists), and loved the little HE[haunted?]A. It gives all the Fall vibes, even though it’s legit Spring over here, and put me right into an early (way, way early) spooky season. I read this guy in two sittings – it’s fast-paced, ridiculous, and hilarious (without meaning to be? I think..). If you like a good slasher or Final Girls flick, pick this up!

P.s. the spice is GOOD, and we’ve got a golden retriever AND broody MMC. Our main girl is spooky, and likes to dabble in poison, what more could you want?

AUDIO EDIT: I was super, super lucky to get a review copy of Slash or Pass on audio and ughh I loved it. Westin Garrett is the voice of our trio and I think he did a fabulous job! Forewarned (unnecessarily, I think ;)) that he’s not your typical deep voiced, broody romance narrator, I couldn’t have cared less. I thought he brought the fun, spooky, crazy book to life. It was actually MORE infuriating hearing rather than reading – you know, all the things that horror movies make you want to scream at the TV… like… OMG THE COPS ARE SO CORRUPT. PLEASE DON’T SEPARATE – and that made it all the better.
