UGH YOU GUYS. Here’s the thing. When you absolutely love a very specific set of books written by an author, it’s really difficult to compare anything else written by them. ESPECIALLY when a book is promoted as in the same “world” as your favorite book. I need to start preparing myself that it won’t be the same… it can’t be the same… BIG SIGH.
Highlights:
Molly went missing when she was a teen… but what really happened to her?
Also, did you know pigs can digest basically anything? Well… you’re gonna find out…
TW’s: murder, gore, graphic sex, rape (off page), human trafficking
What I thought:
I know I lead in negatively on this one, but I really think I just hyped it up too much in my head. Where’s Molly? was a fine story, it just wasn’t on par with H.D. Carlton’s other books, IMO. It was a bit slow, and quite frankly, there was barely a storyline at all. OF COURSE I enjoyed a few easter eggs from the Cat & Mouse duet, and honestly the last eggs made the entire read worth it, but it wasn’t enough to get a better review from me. I’d just as soon have skipped this one.
P.s. Carlton recommends you read the full duet first, but honestly, it wouldn’t change much of the story. This book isn’t nearly as dark as Hunting Adeline, so if you still want the same type of vibes but less trauma, you can probably just read this as-is. You won’t understand the easter eggs, but I’m not sure it matters.
