Haunting Adeline: Review

I’m very excited to write this review. I don’t know about you, but I’ve seen a LOT of opinions on bookstagram lately about taboo authors and books, and what people consider to be the peak “tough reads.” More often than not, the Cat and Mouse Duet tops everyone’s lists. And so, I read the trigger warnings, I consulted my reading twin (my sister! Hey Tori!), and I read the prequel. None of that could have prepare me for the actual LOVE I had for this book. At the end of the day, I actually questioned my own sanity for loving something so intense, but I know I’m not the only one out there, and I hope some of you read this review and put this guy right on your TBR. If a book is written, it deserves to be read; if I can handle the content, I will.

Highlights:
Adeline is a simple woman. She wants to live in her Grandmother’s possibly haunted house, write books, and maybe find a man who can actually make her happy. Too bad what she’s going to get is a stalker and a murder mystery spanning the ages.

TW’s: graphic violence, dub/non consent, stalking, degradation, gunplay, somnophilia, trafficking, human sacrifice

What I thought:
Get ready to put your morals aside, people. If there was EVER a morally gray character, it would be Zade. And if there was EVER a girl flirting that line between being a victim and being in control, it would be Adeline. I freaking loved this book. It’s got a low-key mystery that brilliantly mirrors the FMC’s current life situation. It’s got a complex minor storyline that eventually brings us right into book 2, and it has a side character that makes you want to go hug your own bestie. This book is not for the faint of heart – read the trigger warnings, they’re there for a reason, and be forewarned it ends on a cliffhanger that almost had me just… dead. If you can handle all of that, it’s a well-written book with a unique plot, and I highly recommend!

P.s. be warned – book 2 is a lot to handle. I would recommend reading those trigger warnings too before you get yourself into this series. If you’re one who can walk away from a cliffhanger if the going gets too rough, more power to you, but please proceed with that in mind.
