Let’s talk about release parties…

Can we talk about midnight book releases FOR A HOT SECOND, because I feel like I’ve been transported straight back to my childhood.

I don’t know about you guys, but Harry Potter pretty much owned my little kid ass, and the absolute PEAK thing to do was go to a Borders midnight release party (remember Borders?!). I have such fond memories of hanging out at the Exton Square Mall with my Dad, waiting in line for hours WAY past my bedtime to get my hands on a new copy. Then, of course, I’d go home and lock myself in my room until I finished. Now, my almost 35-year-old ass can certainly not spend all night reading 800 pages anymore, but Barnes & Noble has really got me with these new midnight parties.

A couple of months ago I jumped on the Fourth Wing hype, and honestly, it was an Iron Flame midnight party that got me there. I knew I’d like the book, just based on the synopsis, and figured the hype was probably at least partially true, but the minute I found out they were having a party – I. WAS. IN. I even had a friend interested in going with me, so let me tell you how fast I booked that shit up. Anyway, it was a great time, and I’d hoped local stores would jump on the bandwagon for Crescent City – WHICH. THEY. DID.

I won’t go on too much more, but these parties were great. Both had games and activities, specialty Starbucks drinks (which I’m a sucker for), photo booths, and a lot of great people eager to talk about reading. Books have always given me an opportunity to meet people and just get out of the real-world, but to be able to do it in-person again was *magical.* PLUS, shout out to my sister and SIL, who not only joined me for the HOFAS release party, but have become my go-to’s for Faerie and general smut discussion and recommendations. Here’s hoping to more nerdy events to come.

And no HOFAS spoilers, please! I’m reading 3 books at once and, as mentioned, AM OLD, so be kind.
